Metallography Products

WoB manufacture, to order, on request, over 220 different types of metallographic solution suitable for preparing different types of metal and alloys to determine grain structure, phase identification, general structure, etc.

The table below is a summary of the common types.

 

Product Description
92-5-3 This solution is a Micro-etchant, used to reveal the general structure of high temperature steels and superalloys.
Acetic Glyceregia (226) Used as a Micro etch to reveal the general structure of Iron based alloys (200, 300, 400 series) and Superalloys or as a general etch for Superalloy steels.
Acetic Glyceregia (89) Used as a Micro etch to reveal the general structure of Iron based alloys (200, 300, 400 series), high temperature steels, nonstainless maraging steels, Superalloy Steels, Nickel-Aluminium alloys and Superalloys.
Acidified Ferric Chloride (38) This solution is used to reveal the general structure of Pure Copper, Cu-Al (aluminum bronze) and Copper Alloys as well as Ni-Ag and Ni-Cu alloys.
Adler's Reagent An etchant suitable for high alloy, corrosion resistant steels, Co or Co-Al alloys, such as Inconel 625, and Co-Ni alloys.
Alkaline Sodium Picrate This solution is used as a micro etch to eletrolytically stain carbides in Iron and steel.
Alpha Case Etchant An aqueous solution of Hydrofluoric Acid (2%). This solution is used for Beryllium and Aluminum alloys; used in conjunction with Krolls Reagent it will reveal the alpha case layer of a titanium alloys.
AquaRegia This solution is used as a micro etch to reveal the general structure of Chromium based products and Superalloys.
Barker's Reagent This solution is an electrolytic micro etchant used to reveal the grain structure under polarized light of; pure Aluminium, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 &amp; 7000 series.
Beraha's Tint Etch (155) This produces;<br /> 10 X 150ml units,<br /> 10 X 250ml units,<br /> 2 X 500ml units.
Beraha's Tint Etch (211) This produces;<br /> 10 X 150ml units,<br /> 10 X 250ml units,<br /> 2 X 500ml units.
Beraha's Tint Etch (212) This produces;<br /> 10 X 150ml units,<br /> 10 X 250ml units,<br /> 2 X 500ml units.
Beraha's Tint Etch (213) This produces;<br /> 10 X 150ml units,<br /> 10 X 250ml units,<br /> 2 X 500ml units.
Beraha's Tint Etch (214) This produces;<br /> 10 X 150ml units,<br /> 10 X 250ml units,<br /> 2 X 500ml units.
Beraha's Tint Etch (99) This produces;<br /> 10 X 150ml units,<br /> 10 X 250ml units,<br /> 2 X 500ml units.
Carapella's Reagent This solution is suitable for revealing the general structure of Nickel-Silver alloys and Nickel-Copper alloys. It is also suitable for revealing the general structure of Superalloys.
Chrome-Regia Reagent Reveals the general structure of Iron + (15-30%) Chromium, (6-40%) Nickel and (&lt;5%) Other Elements (300 Series steels).&nbsp; Also suitable for 200 Series steels.
Contrast Etch This solution is used to reveal the general structure of high Nickel based Nickel-Aluminium and Nickel-Iron alloys.
CP-4 Etch This solution is suitable for revealing the general structure of Gernamium based products.
El-1R This solution can be used to reveal the general structure of high Nickel-Iron based alloys. It can also be used to reveal the &gamma;-precipitate of high temperature steels, or the microstructural inhomogeneity of Superalloys. This solution can also be used to reveal the&nbsp;submicroscopic structure in aged Superalloys particularly&nbsp;for electron microscopy. It stains the matrix when&nbsp;&gamma;-precipitates are present.

These solutions are manufactured in bulk and supplied to our on-line shop typically in 150, 250 & 500ml packaging volumes, highly concentrated products are typically supplied in 60 or 100ml volumes; if you are supplied with a 60ml volume product please take extra care and do not store the product for long periods, read the Safety Data Sheet carefully and follow its recommendations implicitly.

 

The shop is designed to be a repository of information regarding metallography so please query it extensively by metal or alloy, test type (Macro or Micro etch), use (Swab, Immersion, etc.) and provide some feedback if you can't get the information you require. The primary function of the shop is to provide a cheap resource for highly specific chemicals and chemical blends designed for metallography, the chemicals used in metallography are not the type of material that you want to store in bulk, in your business or allow unrestricted access to the raw materials; to this end we have designed the shop as an easy resource to purchase exactly what you need in a highly available format and to dispose of the product in a timely manner when not in use.

'The art of science', these solutions amplify the sensitivity and specificity of normally undetectable attributes of a material by improving its visual response via precipitation or chromaticity. Hence these solutions can be used in the field or to highlight specific attributes of a test specimen for microscopic examination.
